It's Just Grass!
- Grass is a plant that grows from a tiny seed.
- It grows in dirt/soil/mulch
- Grass typically likes a lot of water and sunshine
-
Lawns die from:
- Not Enough Water (need to setup irrigation)
- Too Much Water (need to setup drainage)
- Too Much Shade
- (some other things like nutrients and moss but that is much less likely.)
Like most plant seeds, they prefer to be wholly surrounded by wet/moist soil in order to grow.
What does that mean?
If you go toss some seeds on top of your dirt yard, no-matter how much you water, less than 5% will grow.
You would need to:
- Spread seeds
- Compact with a roller/weight
- Add more soil or other moisture layer
- Water thoroughly
Thats a lot of work!
What is different about hydroseeding?
Hydroseeding is a streamlined process:
- Large truck water tank holds a thick mixture of water, seed, and mulch
- Tank often has other ingredients including green dye and fertilizer.
- Truck uses an industrial power sprayer to spread the seed mixture
- Seed Mixture is designed to establish root/vegetation because it has been hydrated and is surrounded when it settles onto the ground
